Society Protocol Season 3 09
Key Figure Assassination
At 2 AM, Min-hyuk opened his eyes at the Ganghwa Island Reserve Training Center.
He was scheduled to depart in 30 minutes.
Min-hyuk set his alarm and got out of bed.
The quarters were camping trailers. Each agent was using one.
Kang Min-hyuk, who hadn't even been to basic military training yet, felt uneasy at the thought of shooting someone with a gun.
However, he was confident that he could hit the target more coldly and accurately than anyone else.
Min-hyuk opened the container holding the Fruit of Knowledge and took both the pills and the liquid medicine.
He packed his magazines and gun. Just in case, he also carried a survival knife. He checked his night vision goggles.
Since they planned to hit and run immediately, he wasn't preparing a backpack, water bottle, or food supplies.
They said it wouldn't take even an hour if they departed by helicopter.
He grabbed his weapon, strapped on his ammo belt, and entered the conference room, the designated assembly point.
They were conducting a final inspection there.
Min-hyuk knew Alpha's quarters best. A simplified map was drawn over a photo of the prayer retreat on the screen.
“Min-hyuk, could you pinpoint Alpha’s location once again?”
Min-hyuk walked forward and pointed his finger at Pastor Hwang’s quarters.
“Since there are ordinary believers in the chapel, I would prefer that you refrain from approaching or attacking them if possible.”
The members did not respond to Min-hyuk’s words.
Although his status was fundamentally different from theirs as a regular member of the organization,
they did not want to bother paying attention to every detail regarding Min-hyuk, who had just turned twenty.
Min-hyuk read their minds immediately from their expressions. There was no need to say anything more.
He intended to shoot immediately if agents approached the chapel where Mi-hee was.
However, he did not show it or say a word.
“Their weapon is equipment that attacks the brain with radio waves to cause brain abnormalities.
Currently, there is no specific defense system capable of blocking it.
However, we anticipate that if you cover your head with a gun in an emergency, it will provide some degree of defense because guns are made of metal.
However, since this is not certain, please exercise the utmost caution.
Some changes have been made to the attack members and targets to be eliminated.
It has been confirmed that we will eliminate only Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta.
Epsilon will not be eliminated. Also, the number of attack agents has been changed to a total of eight.
Min-hyuk, you may move with Number 5.”
Min-hyuk was Number 1, and from then on, everyone was referred to by their number. They were not on good terms to exchange names.
Since Kang Min-hyuk’s name had already been sold, they were simply left alone.
The plan was to infiltrate in pairs, eliminate the targets, contact each other via radio, and escape by helicopter.
Initially, the helicopter lands about 1 kilometer away, after which the personnel split into two waiting electric trucks.
The plan was for them to ascend to the prayer retreat, where Team B (numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8) would occupy the main gate guard post,
and Team A (Min-hyuk and numbers 3, 5, and 7) would eliminate Alpha and Beta, while Team B would eliminate Gamma and Delta.
The operation was to be completed within a maximum of 7 minutes from the start of the attack at the guard post, with the objective to be finished within 5 minutes.
The departure would be made by one helicopter, but the escape would be by two.
The method of loading the agents from the helicopter was also changed to hauling them up in trucks.
“Operation begins. Good luck.”
They were not soldiers. They did not perform any special salutes.
A UH-60 Black Hawk was waiting on the parade ground.
In an hour, they would cut off the enemy's lifeline and bring the entire situation to an end. Those who boarded the helicopter each checked their night vision goggles and communication equipment.
One thermal imaging device was also distributed to each team, with the team member with the lowest number assigned to equip it and locate the position.
The helicopter took off. The noise made for an unpleasant feeling.
Min-hyuk put on the headset provided to block out the helicopter's vibrations and noise.
It was just a few minutes after takeoff, and the helicopter was passing south of Seoul.
A radio message came from the helicopter.
“Operation canceled. Return.”
It was a sudden, unexpected radio transmission, so the pilot checked it again.
“Please check again. Please check again.”
“Operation canceled. Operation canceled. Return.”
“Understood. I will return.”
Min-hyuk and the agents were bewildered.
The voice came from the radio again.
“Kang Min-hyuk, are you listening?”
“Yes, I am listening.”
“The operation has been canceled. A similar operation was carried out in Europe, which started the operation first, and all personnel were killed. Return.”
“So you mean we are just going to leave them alone? Without even trying?”
“Experts from the U.S. have departed. We have received notification that a direct attack will begin in one hour. However, return with peace of mind.”
“Understood.”
The helicopter returned to its original base on Ganghwa Island.
Kang Min-hyuk felt completely drained of energy at having returned so soon after starting. However, when he returned to the base, Ji Seo-hoon was already talking with the training instructor.
“We almost got into big trouble. The enemy wasn't defenseless.”
“What happened?”
“They had radar and portable air-to-ground missiles called Mistrals. We were engaged before we could even land.”
“Isn't that because it's Europe?”
“That might be true, but it might not be. Do you think it's possible for civilians to possess missiles just because it's Europe?”
Min-hyuk had nothing more to say.
“So, who is the expert?”
“It’s not our organization, but an organization that’s like a cousin to us. You’ve probably heard the name DS.”
“Wasn’t it some kind of private organization led by one of our members?”
Ji Seo-hoon only just realized that the rookie he had selected still had little match experience.
“Hmm, it’s hard to explain. Let’s talk about it later when we have time.”
Just then, a radio transmission was heard from the conference room.
The radio was an air-to-ground communication device using the Saturn protocol, a piece of equipment that had not yet been introduced into the country.
It was a product of a German company, a digital radio operating in the UHF band capable of communicating between fighter jets and the ground.
“Hunting Dog, can you hear me, SS?”
“Yes, I can hear you clearly. How do you plan to handle this?”
“We plan to hover in the air, monitor at low speed, and then attack with Hellfire R9X when the target appears. Requesting authorization for the attack.” The R9X is known as the "Ninja Missile," used for assassinating key figures; it is an anti-personnel missile that kills targets with blades resembling shurikens rather than explosions.
“Authorized.”
Since it was the Korean branch and the target was a Korean national, the Korean branch chief’s permission was required.
There would be no more radio communication from now on.
They would complete their mission, cross the Pacific, and return to their country.
Hunting Dog sent members one by one to various parts of the world to attempt the assassination of key figures.
The reason they left the United States as the last target was that attacking with just one or two aircraft carried a significant risk.
It was because they did not know exactly what weapons the enemy possessed.
Therefore, Seattle judged that it would be better to eliminate the smaller branches first, sever their limbs, and then cut off their heads later.
Hunting Dog’s fighter jets were as impressive in performance as they were in appearance. And unlike conventional fighter jets, it was small and capable of performing a flight called "Hawk Stop Flight," which involved hovering on the airflow at ultra-low speeds, much like a hawk standing still in the sky.
Sensors on the aircraft's surface would read the direction of the airflow, and when the pilot pressed the Hawk Stop button, the nose of the plane would point toward the direction of the current, allowing it to fly in a near-stopped motion.
This Hawk Stop Flight was being used effectively for eavesdropping and surveillance, assassination and tracking of key figures, and detailed attacks and reconnaissance missions.
In particular, Hunting Dogs often used this function to collect precise data for assassinations.
Hunting Dog No. 3 began silent flight as it approached the target.
It was essentially riding the wind like a glider.
The Hunting Dogs called this "surfing."
It approached the target while surfing.
The height was only about 100 meters, equivalent to the height of a 30-story apartment building.
Even Hunting Dog No. 3 was performing a Hawk Flight at such a low altitude for the first time.
This was because it was uncommon for air currents to be so strong, and there was usually a possibility of anti-aircraft missiles or equipment being present.
However, when the weapon detection and radar detection systems on the fighter jet were activated, no radar was detected.
The absence of radar meant there were no missiles either.
Since it was a valley surrounded by mountains, the air currents were strong.
He was able to concentrate a little more and lower his altitude.
However, going below 100 meters was dangerous.
If the air currents were to suddenly cut off, he would have to rev the engines high,
and the enemy would notice the noise.
At around 100 meters, he had a margin of about 100 meters.
Fluctuating up and down, he began scanning with the radar, mimicking the shape of a hawk soaring in the sky.
The screen turned into a thermal display. There was no way to identify the target. Usually, attacks were launched by optically observing the location and attire of vehicles or voices, but
this time, it was nighttime and the lodgings were occupied by everyone asleep.
He identified the target. He would eliminate only Alpha.
He concluded that the other targets posed no threat whatsoever.
Just in case, he would fire two shots simultaneously.
Then, after checking for vital signs, he would wait until Alpha's body temperature subsided before leaving.
He fired a laser at the window of the lodging where Alpha was. He could hear the sound of his snoring.
It was Hunting Dog No. 3, riding the wind up and down, waiting for the right moment to press the button.
Elder Kim, the gangster boss who had now become an elder and was at the mountaintop, saw something pitch black
flying up and down without making a sound right at his eye level.
At first, he thought it was just half-asleep.
Elder Kim shouldered the EMP equipment he had dragged up the mountain onto his back. He never imagined that the item he had brought up just in case would be used like this.
He looked for his night vision goggles, but upon reflection, he realized he had left them down below.
The sky in Pyeongchang was clear, and the stars and moon were visible.
The place where the pitch-black thing was located was a place where the stars could not be seen.
It was impossible to tell if the thing was just scouting and leaving, or if it intended to fire a missile.
Elder Kim aimed his EMP gun at the pitch-black thing.
It was then. The pitch-black thing fired two missiles simultaneously from its wings.
Startled, Elder Kim immediately pressed the launcher. The pitch-black thing began to fall slowly.
It emitted no sound or light.
The pitch-black thing began to slide slightly at a 45-degree angle and crashed into the rest area of the prayer retreat.
The sound of a large rock falling and shattering windows was heard.
People turned on their lights and began to move one by one. The guards at the outpost aimed their searchlights in the direction of the sound.
Then they began broadcasting through the speakers.
“This is a real situation. Everyone, gather outside the building carrying angel trumpets. This is a real situation.”
